Methods, Mechanism, and Mayhem

The Anderson Group enjoyed many years at the University of Illinois Chicago and recently moved to the University of Rochester in January 2026.

We develop new reactions to prepare novel heterocycles and organic scaffolds that are challenging to access with existing synthetic technology. We aim to design new and efficient synthetic processes using simple starting materials and a combination of pericyclic reactions and transition metal catalysis to rapidly build molecular complexity. These studies allow us to investigate new fundamental chemistry with mechanistic and computational studies, and collaborate with researchers interested in exploring applications of novel compounds.
